Gay Restaurants Toronto

Toronto gay restaurants, much like gay life in the city itself, are hardly limited to the gay village located at Church and Wellesley. Toronto gay restaurants have abounded for years, providing culinary bounty. And as research demonstrates time and time again, dining out in any one of the gay restaurants in Toronto is done with surprising frequency, moreso than with our general population counterparts.

From the every day fare of O'Grady', one of the newer gay restaurants in Toronto, to Zelda's zany trailer treats, to Byzantium's mediterranean menu selection, all in the heart of The Village just south of Church and Wellesley, Babylon, Le Petit Liban and the Five Alarm Diner to the north, Church Street is hardly short of the litany of gay Toronto restaurants.

But if you're willing to work up an appetite, head south, then east. Scattered throughout the city are some hidden jewels offering ambience, environs and menus that vary casual to complex, all with complete confidence.

Veering slightly from the village, The Town Grill at 243 Carlton Street, offers a venue at once both intimate and ambient and a departure from the glut of gay restaurants in the Toronto village. At 42 seats, the environment is one of simple sophistication, a North American bistro of sorts, not your typical gay restaurant in Toronto. It offers the perfect venue for everything from business dinners, to private parties, or a casual dinner shared with the closest of friends and family. The cuisine is refreshing Continental American with the Roast Pear Salad followed by the Rhea as a main, and the Banana Cobbler with Ginger Ice Cream comprising a perfect meal. The Town Grill also makes a perfect first date location as well. 416.963.9433 for reservations.

And if it's more venue than menu you're in search of, head to the end of Carlton Street and hang a right onto Parliament, and just a few doors down, the operative word being down, tucked just below street level at 424 Parliament, you'll encounter the newest of Toronto gay restaurants, The Left Door. And if The Town Grill is the perfect date dining destination, The Left Door is about getting to know you, getting to know all about you. Both the menu and the entertainment are light and unique, offering a simple elegance, with eclectic casual dining.

Not all gay Toronto restaurants are located in the heart of The Village so take some time to step out sometime, and discover the whole of Toronto's gay community, not just the heart of it.
